Equipment and Clothing

It may seem to the untrained eye that there is no shop for horse tack, equipment and clothing in Malta but that is not correct. There are a few outlets for riders but they are not exactly located on the Main Street in Sliema.

Tan-Niger Stables (PM Farrugia)

The best equipped shop I have found is located near Hal-Far, close to Birzebuggia. The shop is inside a complex for training of Trot Horses and cousins Peter and Mario Farrugia operate this business with the help of Lorraine, who also is a news reporter for horsey events in Malta. She is the person you are most likely to get in touch with when you go to buy your gear.

The shop is divided into two sections; one for the rider and one for the horse. You will find riding boots, jodphurs, helmets, anything for the rider apart from full length leather riding boots, which are only sold per order (you measure and order and they ring you when the boots arrive). You will be able to find ankle boots in leather and short chaps or gaiters and full length synthetic boots though so you’ve got anything you need to get started while waiting for your leathers.
The tack shop has most things you can imagine needing apart from leather saddles. Synthetic saddles are for sale as well as bridles, numnahs, bits, gloves, competition clothing…

Importantly, the set-up is such that you will be able to get help to buy ANYTHING you need – if they don’t have it, they will order it for you.
You have access to brands like Tattini, HKM, Horze, Wahlsten Oy, Zilco and many more.

Knight’s (Equitrade Ltd)

Located in the heart of shops and stables around the racetrack in Marsa, Knight’s is the oldest supplier of horse tack, supplements and medicines in Malta. Knight’s also have some clothing like jodphurs and riding boots but clothing is a side-line for them. Knight’s is also the main supplier in Malta for horse shoes, meaning every blacksmith does most of his shopping there.
The shop is operated by father and con Carolos and Roberto Cini, providing a professional and friendly service.
Knight’s is open from Monday 8-12:30 and 14:30-18:30 and on Saturdays 8-12:30

To contact Knight’s, call 21242689 or 9980 7192 or visit them next to the Marsa Racetrack.
