Saturday 23 Feb is a big day for Monte Kristo Riding Club. The club shows off their new arena while giving their first ever competitive event.
The club has invited novice riders to do a dressage class from 10am, which will be followed by the main event; showjumping, at 1pm.
For the second time this year, we will see classes of up to 110/120cm in Malta (this depends on the weather/footing on the day) which is really exciting since we’ve not been spoiled with many entries above a meter last season. With Monte Kristo’s new arena, which has a silica sand mix, we finally have footing allowing horses to jump higher classes without putting extra stress on their joints from landing on very hard ground.
With some luck, this might make it possible for Malta to take part in competitions like WJC in the future, which is really something we should work towards and look forward to – we’re already taking part in the WDC (this will be the 4th year running).
On the 3 March, the MRC are also arranging a dressage competition at Monte Kristo so for those not taking part in show jumping, there will be a chance to test the new arena then.
